Anders Hørsholt, CEO of Astralis
- There is an ongoing tendency where the public debate on gaming does not include the positive aspects into any real consideration.
... we need to take the industry and its potential (...) seriously - Anders Hørsholt
- To fully take advantage of the benefits of esports, we need to take the industry and its potential as seriously. This requires a much better understanding of the industry in the political environment and society as a whole.
This editorial is part of an ongoing debate in the Danish parliament, questioning what the future of esports should look like. The discourse is centered around a balancing act of encouraging the positives of gaming and esports while suppressing and regulating actors who earn money by exposing minors to gambling-themed loot boxes and microtransactions; a focus also debated currently in the European Union.
In Astralis, we work every day to promote a positive culture, and we want to elevate the discussion to include esports' positive potential on all levels. This requires a much deeper understanding of esports, gaming, gamers, the markets, and the industry.
